Bobbing along at the bottom of the beautiful briny sea

As I near the end of writing the first draft of my third Dr Midas book I’m beginning to think a little more about the next one.
I’ve noticed that my books always seem to include water in the plot and location, including a waterfall, lakes and the sea - and the next will be no exception.

I’m not a big believer in astrology but even I have pondered the fact that as a Scorpio I’m a water sign.
Unfortunately I’m not that keen on the real wet stuff - I’m fine in the bath but anything bigger than that and I feel very uneasy. It doesn’t help that I can’t swim - I never learned because I had an operation on my ear as a child.
So I’m really going to have to use my imagination for my next book (set in Papua New Guinea) as I plan a lot of it to take place underwater with a diving theme.
So I was thrilled to see the amazing photograph above in the papers last week.
Julia Petrik (she's the one in the suit) dives to a depth of 25m in Russia's icy cold White Sea and in this case hitched a lift to the surface from a Beluga whale.
Oh and if temperatures of -2C weren't enough of a challenge you may have noticed the lack of an oxygen tank. That's because Julia is a free diver - she can hold her breath for two minutes and wears only a wet suit, mask and flippers - incredible!
I've been planning for one of my characters in the fourth Dr Midas book to be a free diver. It mind sound a bit silly but I always find spotting anything to do with my book themes as a sign to keep at it.
