When I grow up I want to be... an author

Yes, that’s me nearly thirty years ago scribbling on a blackboard - can’t say that my handwriting has improved much since then.
I’ve always loved writing - at primary school my favourite lesson was creative writing (do they still have that?)

Ah those hazy days when my teacher would say: “Ok class, today I want you to write a story about an alien from Outer Space.
I’d sit there, Berol pen in hand, my imagination already conjuring up a strange creature with three eyes and four antennae and I’d be away. Well nothing has changed, that’s still my favourite way to pass spare time except now my story ideas are more likely to be prompted by an exotic location, an amazing treasure or an unusual animal I’ve read about. I still write just for fun, but now I’m also motivated by short story competitions and my wish to be a published author.
Hopefully lots of you love writing too, because I don’t want this blog to be just about my endeavours. Writing can be a lonely hobby and it would be great if we could compare notes.
What do you write? Where and when? Do you prefer longhand or typing straight onto computer? I’ll be discussing all these topics and more.
I want to hear from all ages about all kinds of writing - although my blog will be centred on writing for children.
Had a success? Put down the Champagne for a minute and let me know. Had a rejection? Step away from the chocolate and drop me a line instead!
I’m also planning to post details of writing-related news, events and competitions - perhaps the odd giveaway too. So make sure you visit my Writers Block blog regularly.
In the meantime you might like to check out my website www.drmidas.co.uk to find out a bit more about my books - and of course feel free to post details of your writing websites here too.
