Write an episode of Hollyoaks

Could you pen an upcoming episode of the Chester soap?

Any HOLLYOAKS fans out there? Or perhaps you've always fancied being a soap scriptwriter - well now's your chance - but you'll have to get your skates on.

Channel 4 are running a fantastic scriptwriting competition as part of it's new talent month. Entrants have to script four scenes for the Chester-set soap, based on an old storyline.
The winner will then be given exclusive access to HOLLYOAKS' storylines and will be commissioned to write an entire episode working with the HOLLYOAKS production team which will be broadcast in late August.
A Channel 4 spokesman said: "Whether you're a fan, an established writer or just looking to take your first tentative steps into the TV industry, this is a unique opportunity to make a name for yourself."
There is a lot to do for this competition - but they have done an excellent job at talking entrants through the requirements.
To begin with you must read an example storyline which will form the basis for your script which you will then rewrite. Next you must read a sample script. Then take a look at the advice given by producer Bryan Kirkwood who will also judge the competition.

Entrants must write the four scenes including stage directions keeping to the example storyline.

The Channel 4 website explains: It is important at this stage to try to ensure your trial script really displays your writing talent as much as possible, and doesn't simply lay out the storylines in a scripted format. We're looking for writers who know our characters, can plot through a good story that keeps the narrative driving forward, and can achieve a balance between light and shade that, hopefully, is implicit in the storyline. But always put your personality and your own voice into the script
Entrants must be over 16 and a UK resident. The deadline is 3pm on Friday, April 11 2008.
