I don't get to the theatre very often, but once in a while a production catches my eye and I have to go. Being a kid at heart it's usually a puppet show, musical or play aimed at youngsters like 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang,' 'Dr Doolittle,' and Neil Gaiman's 'The Wolves in the Walls.'
Earlier this year I enjoyed 'The Doubtful Guest' a surreal tale of a penguin-like creaturebased on the classic illustrated Edward Gorey book. I joined the Everyman/Playhouse mailing list and among the forthcoming treasures is 'Proper Clever.'
'Proper Clever' is a new play written by children's writer Frank Cottrell-Boyce. Well as I've mentioned once or twice I'm a bit of a fan so I've booked my tickets. Now I just have to be patient until October.
Here's the write up incase you're a fan too: "Claire and her gang are proper clever ... and they know it. They're friends... and they're sure of it. They're watching from the sidelines... and they have a plan. Then Bex stumbles into their virtual world. Sad and desperate she's the perfect test for their experiment, one that will bring down the most popular girl in school. Frank Cottrell-Boyce writer of 24 Hour Party People, Millions and Cosmic brings us a mulitmedia story for the myspace generation about clever versus smart and how to satisfy the hunger for knowledge when everyone's eating burger and chips."
