Fancy yourself as the next Brothers Grimm or Hans Christian Anderson? Well if you are a great storyteller like them why not enter one of these competitions I've discovered.

The first is for youngsters aged fourteen and under and has been organised by Barefoot Books. Entries should be "original interpretations or adaptations of a handed-down ballad or tale."
The prizes for the winner are an amazing trip for two to New York City with the chance to perform your story live at FAO Schwarz the famous toy shop (as seen in the film Big.) There will also be a £1000 Barefoot library for the winner's school along with a one day professional storytelling workshop.
To take part you need to think of a creative way to tell a story - it can be a folk tale, fairy tale, urban legend or family story. You must then memorise it and film it using props and instruments but it must be less than ten minutes long. After registering on the Barefoot Books site (make sure you get your parents' permission) you need to upload your video and then get friends and family to vote for it. Deadline for entries is November 7 2008.

If you are over 14 then you can enter 'Telling Tales - the search for the nation's most enthusiastic storytellers.'
The National Year of Reading website explains: "Just film yourself on your mobile or video camera for two minutes or under, reading your favourite story book, then upload your clip according to the simple instructions. It doesn't have to be polished or smartly edited, as long as your enthusiasm for storytelling comes across."
A winner from each region will receive books from Harper Collins publishers and the overall winner will receive a family ticket to the UK premiere of Walt Disney Pictures film Bedtime Stories starring Adam Sandler and Russell Brand.
