Summer challenge for new scriptwriters

Posted by Susan Humphreys on July 15, 2008 9:00 AM |

Write a script this summer and then get it made - that's the summer challenge from RISE films who have teamed up with Casarotto Ramsay & Associates and Sight & Sound magazine

One of my favourite writers for children - Frank Cottrell Boyce - started his career as an author after first writing the screenplay for 'Millions'. He was persuaded to turn the script into a book and now he's on his third (Cosmic - which I'm currently really enjoying.) So who knows this could be another way into getting a publishing deal.
Rise films say: "We will bring your film from the page to the screen and give you the opportunity to secure representation from a leading literary agency. Whether it's comedy, action, horror, sci-fi, or thriller, we want to read your work. So, if you've been carrying around that big idea but don't know where to put it, unburden yourself this summer. We will select one script and develop it further with the writer, eventually to be financed and produced."

There is no submission fee for the summer challenge. Script submissions must be of feature length (70 pages or more).
Your script and application must be accompanied by a Project Summary, to include the following materials: Log line - one sentence describing your film, Synopsis (50 words max) Plot breakdown (a more detailed description of events taking place in your film - 250 words max) Personal Statement explaining why your script is important to you, why it should be made into a film and what your mission for the project is as its writer (250 words max).
Entrants must not already have literary representation and materials must be sent hard copy (not email.)
You can email any questions to summerchallenge@risefilms.com download the application form at www.risefilms.com/summer
The deadline is September 26th 2008.

* Frank Cottrell Boyce will be signing copies of Cosmic at Waterstone's Liverpool on Saturday (July 17th) at 1.30pm.
