Author book signings near and far

Here's another round-up of author signings at local book stores along with a list of appearances by top children's authors across the U.K for those of you are lucky enough to live nearby.
Terry Pratchett will be signing copies of his new books "Nation" and "The Folklore of Discworld" at Broadhursts of Southport (5-7 Market Street) on Thursday 18 September from 4pm. Terry is the author of the Discworld series as well as books for children and young adults.

Diana Shaw will be reading from 'Septimus Smythe and the Spectre Detectors' at Waterstone's Trafford Centre, Thursday August 21st 1pm-2pm and Borders, Cheshire Oaks, Friday August 22nd, 11am.
"Septimus Smythe is a ghost with a problem. He is the star attraction at the castle where he haunts, but lately, things haven't been going too well for him."
Diana Shaw is a semi-retired teacher who lives in Cheshire. 'Septimus' is the first children's book published by Quick Brown Fox Publications.
Quick Brown Fox, based in York, say they specialise in first time authors and that they are a new company, I would be interested to know a bit more about them.
Meet local author Gareth R Roberts, who will be in store signing his novel "That Immortal Jukebox Sensation" (published by Libros International.) at Waterstones Birkenhead Sunday August 30th, 1-1.30pm.
Bestselling author Anne Baker will be signing copies of her latest novel 'The Best of Fathers' at Waterstones, Birkenhead on Monday, September 1st 2008, 11:00PM - 11:30PM. Anne has written 25 novels and her latest is another saga set in Liverpool involving family secrets.
Meet Children's Author Brian Lux at Waterstone's Knutsford.
Brian will be signing copies of his new book 'Court of Foxes' on Saturday, 6 September 2008 at 11:30AM. Brian (like myself) featured in a Writers Forum article written by Louise Jordan. The piece was all about his self-published book Loopy Lugs that has sold very well. 'Court of Foxes' has won the Welsh Region 2007 novel competition run by Undiscovered Authors. Brian will also be running a writing workshop to help children use their imaginations in their creative writing.
Best-selling author of the Alex Rider books, Anthony Horowitz, will be signing copies of his new book, The Power of Five:Necropolis at WH Smith, the Arndale Centre, Manchester on October 31st between 1 and 2pm.
Also: Taking place at Waterstones Ormskirk on Saturday September 6th (10-4) is the Quarry Grove Interactive workshop with Clive Tandy and James Mclean.
Youngsters can learn new skills including creating stories and drawing characters. Find out more at www.quarrygrove.com.

Lauren St John will be instore signing copies of "The White Giraffe", "Dolphin Song" and "The Last Leopard" at Waterstone's Cirencester. Saturday August 23rd, 2pm.
Wolf Brother author Michelle Paver will be signing copies of her fifth Chronicles of Ancient Darkness' book 'Oathbreaker' at Waterstones, Bluewater West. Monday September 1st 2-4pm.
'Invisible City: the Joshua Files' author MG (Maria) Harris and Julia Golding author of the Cat Royal series (including Diamond of Drury Lane) will appear at the Waterstone's Witney Book Festival. Saturday September 6th 10am (tickets needed but event is free) Witney Corn Exchange Gallery Room.

Chocolat author Joanne Harris will be talking about her children's book Runemarks and signing copies at a Waterstone's event at Wakefield Town Hall on Tuesday, September 9th at 7pm. Tickets are £3 from the store. Booking essential.
Richard and Judy's Children's Book Club winner Sophie McKenzie will be signing copies of Blood Ties at Waterstone's Harrods, London, on Thursday September 11 at 10.30am.

Michael Morpurgo will discuss his children's book 'WarHorse' and the National Theatre production of it at a special 'In Conversation' event at Waterstone's Piccadilly, London. Free tickets available for the Thursday, September 11th event (6.30pm) from the store.
Get a sneak preview of the tenth and final book in the 'Princess Diaries' series and meet author Meg Cabot at Waterstone's Piccadilly, London on Saturday September 20th at 11am. Meg will talk about her new novels 'Allie Finkle - the new girl' and 'Airhead'. Tickets are free for the event at 11am on Saturday, September 20th.
Or meet Meg at Waterstone's Milton Keynes on Thursday September 25th at 6.3opm. Tickets £2 from the shop.

There are also two opportunities to meet best-selling children's horror writer Darren Shan.
Darren will also be at the Milton Keynes branch of Waterstone's. Tickets for the Wednesday October 1st (6.30pm) event are £2. He will be reading from Wolf Island - The Demonata (volume eight) and signing copies. He will also be at Waterstone's Bury St Edmunds on Saturday October 4th, 3-5.30pm. Expect huge queues!
