Like father like son - is a desire to write inherited?

The other day I stumbled upon Elmore Leonard's website and for fans it has everything you could possibly need to know. I've only read his children's book but once I clear a bookshelf or two I'm going to have to try some more.
Anyway the bit I found most interesting was that his son, Peter, has just had his first novel published.

Like his dad Peter has chosen to write crime and has had some great reviews for 'Quiver' including some from fellow writers Michael Connolly and Donald Westlake.
I also discovered the other day that John Le Carre's son has also been bitten by the writing bug and sold his first novel to William Heinemann for a reported £300,000. He has used the pen name Nick Harkaway (their real name of Cornwell being already oversubscribed with Patricia and Bernard) for his book 'The Gone Away World which again has had good reviews from critics.'
(There's an interesting article on the Telegraph website where Nick talks about how he secretly turned to writing.)
Interestingly both men began with scriptwriting before turning to novels and both were encouraged by their fathers in their endeavours.
It got me thinking about wether or not there's a writing gene that is passed through families. A lot of people keep their writing quiet - my dad's good at english and my mum loves books but I don't know if anyone in my family ever tried their hand at a short story, a novel or a poem.
Elmore's website is at www.elmoreleonard.com and Peter's website is at www.peterleonardbooks.com
P.S I've also just discovered (Sept 08) that horror novelist Stephen King's son - Joseph Hillstrom King - has also became a published writing. He kept his true identity a secret for some time writing under the pseudonym Joe Hill.
