This week I've been working from Chester - a lovely city - and while out at lunchtime I spotted they're about to have a literary festival. By coincidence this morning I received an email telling me about the forthcoming Liverpool Literary Festival. So here's a little information on both if you fancy going.

Liverpool: 'Shipping Lines' is taking place between November 3rd and 9th at the University this is the first Liverpool Literary Festival. Top of the must see list has to be Philip Pullman, but book lovers will also be able to attend events featuring Monica Ali, Carol Ann Duffy, Roger McGough, Malorie Blackman, Frank Cottrell Boyce and Mal Peet this year's Liverpool Reads' author.
The Festival includes live author readings, stimulating discussions, creative workshops and reading groups for adults and children across the city's theatres, cafés and schools.
Philip Pullman will present The Elementary Particles of Narrative on Friday November 7th at 6.30pm (I've booked my tickets!) Frank Cottrell Boyce will discuss his film God on Trial on Saturday November 8th at 2pm and Malorie Blackman will be 'in conversation' at 12 noon. A lot of the events are free others can be booked though the Liverpool Philharmonic website. Find out more at www.liv.ac.uk/literaryfestival/events

The Shell Chester Literature Festival : Headliners this year include Chris Patten, Esther Rantzen, David Owen, Martin Bell, Nicholas Crane and Ffion Hague but the highlight for me is children's writer Michael Morpurgo Michael Morpurgo on Thursday October 9th.
The festival takes place between October 6th and 24th including the performance weekend 'Chester Oyez!'
Workshops include 'Successful writers on successful writing' on Monday October 6th
For those of you who fancy writing a blog (it's great fun) there is a workshop on Saturday October 11th.

Hi Susan, I thought I would say hello because we both have Lit blogs in a similar area, I am based in Liverpool. The blogging seminar at the Chester Lit Fest sounds interesting, and yes, its loads of fun. Best wishes!

Hi Leah,

Thanks for getting in touch, I really like the look of your blog and am going to have a proper read when I've caught up with a few things after my short break away. I see you've just read 'The Book Thief' it's excellent isn't it, very moving. Have you also read 'The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas' by John Boyne?' another one to have you weeping I'm afraid and it's just been made into a film. If you like (adult) WWII fiction I can also recommend 'My Enemy's Cradle' by Sara Young and 'Berlin' by Pierre Frei.
Best wishes
Susan
