I love BBC4 it is one of the best places to find documentaries and dramas about writers. At the moment they are focusing on romantic fiction. They rhave just showed 'In Love with Barbara' a drama about Barbara Cartland which I'm half way through watching and they have been repeating 'Reader I Married Him' a three-part look by Daisy Goodwin at romantic fiction.
You can also watch some of these shows on the BBC iplayer.
Next week they are showing 'Consuming Passion; 100 years of Mills & Boon' a drama featuring Emilia Fox. The one-off drama tells three stories, the first is inspired by Charles Boon's wife Mary; the second is based around a fictional 70s writer, and the third a modern about a lecturer who has a fling with a student with love scenes inspired by the changing style of M&B books.
Consuming Passion is on BBC4 on Sunday November 2nd at 9pm.
BBC4 are also showing an episode of the documentary series Time Shift which I will want to catch, subtitled How to Write a Mills & Boon featuring tips from literary novelist Stella Duffy.
The BBC4 site says: "The company welcomes submissions from new authors, but as Duffy soon finds out, writing a Mills and Boon is harder than it looks. Help is at hand from the publishers themselves, a prolific Mills and Boon author and some avid romance fans, as Duffy's quest to create the perfect romantic novel takes her from London to Italy on a journey that is both an insight into the art of romantic fiction and the joy and frustration of writing itself."
The episode is on BBC4 on Sunday November 2nd at 8pm.
