Sorry there were no new posts last week, I've had a week's holiday and have been very lazy. All my plans to do loads of writing came to nothing, mainly because a reoccuring problem I have with RSI was threatening to return.
I also had three rejections from people's Friend last week which didn't exactly encourage me to pick up pen. I was pleased with the stories too, ah well c'est la vie. (I'm going to have that song in my head now)
The responses look like standard replies, the ones for Children's Corner say "Thank you for giving me an opportunity to see your contribution for the Children's Corner. Though enjoyable to read, I'm afraid I'm unable to accept it for publication. As we only print one Children's Corner a week, from dozens receives in the office, it unfortunately means having to disappoint many readers. Thank you once again for writing in."
The one for my adult fiction story is slightly different, but in the same vein.
"Many thanks for sending us the enclosed material. Unfortunately, we felt the storyline was not quite suitable for the "People's Friend". We are sorry that, on this occasion, we are unable to use your material. I enclose a copy of our guidelines which may help you to study our market."
In fact I got the guidelines with each rejection so there's no excuse for not knowing them inside out from now on!
On the upside I did enjoy a visit to Blackpool Zoo during my week off - it was freezing but I got to see the new aardvarks I was hoping the grey mouse lemurs would be visible - but yet again they prefered the comfort of their off-show box.
On Friday I made a trip to Manchester Museum as I'd heard via Zoochat that they have a new Panther Chameleon. The species in a Madagascan one so off I went with my camera. I've got quite a few new pictures for my website now and I've been working on a HTML revamped first page. I'm quite pleased with how it's going, but it's not yet ready for uploading. I'm hoping to persuade my boyfriend to do some music for it too so I can include a wav file.
I'm really pleased with how much I've learned in just a few weeks on my website course.
I should also reprint off some of my rejected stories and try them elsewhere.
