I have discussed a couple of times with my digital editor the idea of posting an extract or a short story on my blog.
So it was really interesting to read about fellow journalist David Hilzenrath who began serialising his first book Jezebel's Tomb online on his employers the Washington Post's website.
The Guardian has an interesting books blog piece on the topic saying that fiction could be making a comeback in newspapers especially with the growth of their websites.
The Washington Post explains that the business writer's entire 412 page text will be serialised online with a paperback verison being available to buy by readers from digital publishers Lulu Inc.
Hilzenrath turned to the web after his biblical themed thriller was rejected several times. The book is about a journalist who investigates a bombing and uncovers a mysterious 2,000 year old document.
I'll be really interested to see how successful David is, he's certainly gaining plenty of publicity. I suppose it, as always will depend ultimately though on how good the writing and story are.
Also when journalists write a news story the copyright belongs to the newspaper so I am also really curious as to what agreements have been made regarding copyright and the financial side of things.
